Lists are groups of various types of newsletters. The subscriber selects a list during signup or you assign them when you create/import names/emails. An example of lists are shown to the right.
When you set up a mailing, you select the list that will be used for that mailing. This allows you to target your mailing to the appropriate subscribers - those that want to get information from that list.
Each mailing list can have an Auto-Respond Template that you design. That template;s content will be emailed out to new subscribers after they verify their subscription. Each newsletter can have their own unique template, or you can use one template for all new subscriber auto-responds.
